What Is Higher Consciousness

Monday, December 1, 2008

I thought to myself, some of my guests may not know what is meant by higher consciousness, renewed awareness, elevated consciousness. I speak a lot about higher consciousness and as we move into what Astrologist refer to as the Age of Aquarius, you will hear this word progressively more.

“Has your mind ever astonished you? Have you suddenly realized what another person was about to say or do?

Have you solved some difficult problems in seemingly miraculous ways?

Have you ever felt ecstasy move through your body during moments of reflection?

Has your heart leapt with indescribable joy and good will as you thought of other people?

Do you mysteriously attract into your life whatever you yearn for in your moments of stillness?

All of the above experiences are mystical in nature — moments of higher consciousness during which you transcend normal mental activity and enter the splendors of your higher awareness.”

A simple dictionary definition of consciousness is “an alert cognitive state in which you are aware of yourself and your situation.” If someone is lying on the ground, the first thing you try to do is to determine if he/she is conscious. Numerology uses the same premise but in a spiritual respect, are you conscious of Self and the world around you?

Higher Consciousness “a transcendent state of existing in higher consciousness. Initially you spiritually awaken to your higher consciousness and resort to it daily. After experiencing many levels of higher consciousness you become able to live in it continuously for days at a time while still functioning at your best possible Self. Through meditation and practice, you become permanently awakened and live in uninterrupted higher consciousness.”

Thanks to the Internet, instead of explaining higher consciousness in my own words, I truncated another edifying source and have provided the link below for those inquisitive Souls that desire more information. There are numerous interpretations on “higher consciousness” and I don’t profess to knowing everything (however I am a knowledge seeker), I hope to begin a dialogue which includes your understanding on the area under discussion. Feel free to leave your comments.

1) The first sign of awakening is usually a growing reverence for life. You find you are immensely appreciative of being alive. You find it easy to conceive in your musings that incredibly great consciousness and energy is at work wherever there is life.

2) You become aware that you may have many negative qualities but, nevertheless, you have extremely positive qualities too, plus — you have life.

3) You begin to value other people a great deal. Whether they value themselves or not and you perceive uniqueness and significance in every person. You have allowed yourself to open your eyes to a higher consciousness, to see life well. You also clearly understand "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." You know all people are, in reality, sharing life together.

4) Your awakening to life’s richness also prompts a profound consideration of your own conduct. Your interactions with others more deeply reflect your respect for their concerns and feelings. You actively strive not to harm people or cause them any suffering.

5) You have a heightened awareness of cause and effect. You see that the events of your life are the results of causes. You recognize that what happens to you each day is not based on random, irrational fates. Rather, your thoughts, attitudes, words, and actions most significantly cause and influence your personal experiences of life. While some events in your life remain perplexing and inexplicable, more often than not you can understand why other people and life in general treat you the way they do. Then, in your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions, you strive to cause a preferred effect, a more satisfying and ideal result.

6) You notice the good you do for people, or for the world in general, come back to you in kind — not necessarily directly from the people you helped but by some perceptible means your "good returns good" to you.

7) You learn how to daily transcend your normal mind — with its thoughts about past, present and future — to enter the infinite, unlimited part of your being.

8) You have an ever-increasing awareness of your spiritual essence, the meaning of life and of the underlying spiritual nature in all things. In elevating your awareness beyond your normal thought processes you can experience your true nature and potential. With awakened higher consciousness you live in wonder and delight as you create a finer life and a better world.

Spiritual awakening is oftentimes confused with psychic states or a flood of vivid impressions coming from the subconscious mind; I refer to this as intuition. Awakening events can occur for years but most people are so busy that they probably don’t question what is occurring, don’t pay much attention. I find tragedy more often than not, will awaken the consciousness. In contrast, there are those that in time instinctively awaken spiritually.

Awesome article Seriita! I have had some of these feelings for the past year and a half. I also noticed that I see the number 11 regardless of the hour that I look at the clock for the past 2 years. It's kind of freaking me out, but I know that the number 11 is a master number, so I suppose it is all related? Stay positive!
